Support the environment in the workplace: Make recycling easy by posting signs and placing collection bins next to trash cans. Making a ton of paper from recycled stock saves up to 17 trees and uses 50% less water than making paper from virgin fiber. Place composting bins in break and lunch rooms Assign a staff person responsibility for products that are obscure or difficult to recycle Set goals for reducing waste by tracking monthly disposal bills Encourage e-mailing. When paper is necessary, photocopy on both sides and use old letterhead for scratch. Tell suppliers that you're interested in sustainable products and set specific goals for buying recycled, refurbished, or used. Make the environment, and not just price, a factor when purchasing.

Compact fluorescent bulbs use about 75 percent less electricity than old-style incandescents because almost all of their energy goes to generate heat, not light. Only 10 percent of the energy used by an incandescent bulb produces light; the rest is given off as heat. Switching to compact fluorescent lights, while costing more money initially, would save consumers about $62 per bulb because fluorescents use less energy and last 10 times longer than incandescent lights.
